Tortoise Hub : Under way, but not finished

Pre-amble. I am going to share with you the joy of these little shelled warriors (hermanns only)

Tort or Kids

One's smelly , makes a mess of where it lives , eats everything, needs everything and costs a fortune to have and keep

The other is a tortoise

Please note this hub is intended for people who want direct info without all the flowery stuff

FIRST : DO'S AND DONT ( and TRY's)

DONT : Buy a Hermann's Tortoise without a Defra Certificate.

DONT : Buy a Hermanns Tortoise for Young Children (They are not toys)

DONT : Listen to your parents, (living in box in the shed and feeding them dog food is cruel.)(i meant the tortoises, not the kids, they like the shed, its got an xbox)

DONT : FEED THEM LETTUCE : See our feeding GUIDE later in the blog

DONT : House them in Vivariums ( I don't care what people say, its not their natural environment)

DONT : Buy them on a wimm, its not fair and they do need attention.

-------------------

TRY : Not to buy them from commercial pet shops, they seem to have limited expertise, Each should be taken on its merit, try a breeder or specialist, again take each on their merit)

TRY : To find accurate information that makes sense.

TRY : When all else fails, try to remember that if you can re produce their natural habitat as closely as possible, then you are already 90% on your way.

------------

DO : Ask as many questions as you like,

DO : Check my answers and gain as much knowledge as you can

DO ; Expect them to cost money to light, keep warm, UV lights, food ,soil, sand, etc

DO : Enjoy them, they are awesome, intelligent and learn quickly (I know its hard to believe)

DO : Be prepared for breeding season , when the boys can be noisy for hours on end.

Next Part in a few days, going cleaning out my torts
